Our Story

Founded in frustration. Built on conviction.

Zed Studio started because the agency model wasn’t working.

Before founding Zed, Zak spent more than a decade working in agencies and in-house marketing teams big and small. The pattern was always the same. A client would arrive asking for a new website. The agency would build a new website. A client would ask for a new logo. The agency would design a new logo. No step back. No zoom out. No conversation about whether what they were asking for was actually what they needed.

A few months later, the call would come. “The new website hasn’t done anything.” And it usually wasn’t a website problem. It was a traffic problem. Or a positioning problem. Or a strategy problem that no one had bothered to surface before getting to work.

Zed exists to do that differently. We start with the business behind the brief, not the brief itself. We get to know clients before we recommend anything. We’re honest when what you think you need isn’t what you actually need. We’re in it for the long run, because we believe your success is the same as ours.

The name is a small story too. Zed is the initial Zak shares with his eldest daughter, Zarley. He wanted something a bit different. The studio’s been called Zed Studio ever since.

We start with the business behind the brief, not the brief itself. We won’t quote you on what you think you need until we understand what you actually need. The most expensive websites we’ve ever seen are the ones built without strategy first.

Bespoke design and development on the right platform for your project. No templates, no shortcuts, no off-the-shelf solutions pretending to be original. The same hands that pitch are the hands that build.

Partnership

Most agencies disappear after launch. We don’t. Many of our clients have been with us for years, which we think is the metric that matters. Your success is the same as ours, and we’re in it for the long run.

These aren’t marketing lines. They’re the things we’ll genuinely push back on a client about.

Strategy before solutions.

Most digital problems aren’t what they look like on the surface. A site that isn’t converting might not have a design problem. A page that isn’t ranking might not have an SEO problem. We dig before we build, every time.

Long view over short wins.

We’re not interested in projects we’d be embarrassed by in three years. Some of our best work is invisible: clean code, solid foundations, sites built to be maintainable by the next person who works on them.

Honesty over hopefulness.

If we’re not the right fit for your project, we’ll tell you on the first call. If your idea is going to cost more than you’ve budgeted, we’ll say so. If the answer isn’t more digital but better systems or sharper focus, we’ll point you toward that instead.

Quality over quantity.

We take on a limited number of projects at any one time. We’d rather build a handful of great things this year than dozens of average ones. That’s why most of our work comes through referral and why we’re often booked out a couple of months ahead.
