10× organic traffic in six months

The SEO rebuild for Woodford Recycling

Woodford Recycling came to us with a website that wasn’t pulling its weight in organic search. The business had a strong service offer and an established local catchment. The search performance didn’t reflect either. Most service pages were ranking on page two or further back. Impressions were thin. The site existed, but it wasn’t bringing in enquiries.

The brief: turn organic search into a consistent source of qualified leads.

Woodford Recycling and skip hire. Organic clicks up 1,028%. Organic impressions up 1,243%. In six months.

The starting point

A site can lose organic visibility for dozens of reasons. The audit found most of them in play at once: a slow, dated architecture, gaps in technical SEO foundations, service pages that were too thin to compete for buyer-intent terms, and weak local signals telling Google where the business actually served customers.

The plan covered seven workstreams running in parallel.

1. A new website. This made the biggest single difference. The previous site was holding everything else back. Slow to load, structurally limited, hard to optimise. We rebuilt it from the ground up with SEO baked into the foundations rather than bolted on afterwards.

2. Technical SEO foundations. Speed, crawl health, indexation, schema markup. The unglamorous work that decides whether everything else has a chance of working. Page speed jumped. Indexation coverage cleaned up. Schema gave Google clearer signals about the business and its services.

3. Service page content depth and on-page optimisation. Each priority service page was rewritten with the depth, structure, and keyword targeting needed to compete. /skip-hire/ was the highest-volume opportunity and got particular attention.

4. New content targeting buyer-intent terms. The old site wasn’t covering huge swathes of relevant search demand. We built out new content addressing the specific questions, comparisons, and use cases buyers were searching for, then routed it back to the service pages through internal linking.

5. Internal linking restructure. Authority was being wasted on low-value pages. We restructured internal linking to push that authority toward /skip-hire/ and the other priority service pages, which is where buying decisions get made.

6. Local SEO. Google Business Profile optimisation, citation cleanup, location signals across the site. For a service business with a local catchment, this is the difference between appearing in the map pack and being invisible.

7. Review management. Consistent review generation feeds both Google Business Profile rankings and on-page social proof. We put a system in place so reviews stopped being a chase-when-we-remember-to activity.

The results

After six months, compared with the previous six-month period.

The clicks lift on /skip-hire/ tracks closely with the all-site lift, but the impression jump is the headline story. A 10× rise in impressions means the page is now appearing for far more searches than it was before. The work expanded what the page could compete for, not just where it ranked for terms it was already targeting.

Where we’re focused next

The organic engine is working. The next phase is about turning the dial up. Google Ads goes live as the next workstream, layering paid acquisition over an organic foundation that’s now stable enough to take the additional traffic and convert it efficiently. The plan is to use paid to accelerate what organic has already proven works.

The takeaway

Big organic uplifts on local service sites don’t come from one big move. They come from a programme of work hitting technical health, content depth, internal linking, and local signals in parallel. Each piece compounds the others. The website rebuild was the biggest single lever, but without the technical, content, and local work running alongside it, the numbers wouldn’t have landed.

If your site has the potential to rank but doesn’t, the lever is rarely just one thing. It’s usually most of them, working together.
